Identity

Identity is a theme I have continuously explored throughout my practice, moving from representational and figurative works to explorations through abstract shapes, patterns, and forms. Each phase reflects a deepening inquiry into how identity can be seen, felt, and constructed beyond the visible self.

This body of work examines the act of seeing beyond representation. Using the classical oval portrait format rendered through Perdakht—a miniature technique composed of countless single-hair dots—the image at first appears abstract, revealing itself only through the viewer’s slow, intimate engagement.

This exploration evolved into the series Registration Errors, where carefully drawn patterns are intentionally misaligned and overlapped, echoing the imperfect layering found in printmaking. Just as repeated impressions can distort an image over time, history too can be misprinted—layer upon layer—diluting truths and reshaping narratives to serve particular powers. Through this masterful misalignment, I question who records, defines, and manipulates histories, cultures, and identities.
